My husband & I went with dear friends who live in Vegas & visit you often for lunch etc. Boy were we surprised when we arrived… Never saw a cuter place to visit, eat & enjoy all the things to look at. Love the food & great service & looking forward to our next visit.

All I have read here is B.S.Ghaddaffi was attacked for his resources.The guy did for Kibya what the western leaders will never do for their people.Now,European companies are rushing to Tripoli for contracts to ‘rebuild’ Libya.Reconstruction after you have bombed the country in the name of protecting civilians? The Libyan Islamic Fighting Group are the ones who started this war. They are the ones who first overran police and military buildings in Benghazi. Of course you are going to get shot at if you try to attack a military or police base. You should have gone To Canggu… Evrything is cheap there or reasonably-priced. The beach at Tanah Lot, Echo and that other one is perfect for surfing as in zero surfers. My bf had a great tiem surfing there. There’s also a newly-established wood-fired pizza in the neighborhood and oh so yummy @ 5 bucks for 10″. And if you;re driving you can rent a car there, we did for $180 for 1 week. Awesome, eh!? We actually stay in Canggu and have a house there, and renting that out to tourists as well.

We were there just last week. It was really fun! Now am reminiscing the feeling and the excitement I felt on that day. Couldn’t stress how much fun we had. On the 2nd ride though, we were all thrown into the water bcos of a bad jolt on the rocks, my knees hit the bottom rocks, it hurt, but yeah no pain no glory i guess. And my bf’s paddle was alrdy broken mid through. Funny bcos our guide said he had to pay for it but we refused. In the end, they just let it go. Coming there, we were picked up at Oberoi and the driver was really friendly and he knows where we were going. We even stopped by at that Coffee Plantation and awed at that Luwak (civet cat) coffee. We bought some. I wanted to see the kecak dance there but it doesnt start until 6.30pm. All in all it was awesome! We’re def coming back.

Your position seems based on some false premises. Are you promoting putting an entire population on “welfare?” Do you know that Libyans earned less than $2 a day under Gaddafi? How many billions of dollars have been frozen outside the country? NOT in foreigners hands, but in Gaddafi-family owned bank accounts and business concerns. As well, there is very little evidence of assaulting and killing black majority. I follow these things very closely and have seen nothing other than one news report about one camp in Tripoli where the perpetrators were not identified by the Sub-Saharans as FFs, but as Arabic-speaking. You are basing your opinions on scanty information.

Sandra honey, you are projecting Western values onto non-Western peoples. Do you think these people want “freedom?” Or perhaps they are a rival tribe who see that Qaddafi has built something worth taking? do you have any idea what that place was like before the Q took over? He took over the oil reserves from foreigners (which is his real crime) and put his people on welfare, in houses with free electricity and gave free education to all. Even built a second university. Are these “rebels” going to keep any of that up? Once they squander what is already there they will hand the country back over to foreigners. Also, these very nice rebels have been assaulting and killing the black minority in Libya (imported by Qaddafi out of good will), what does a politically correct “freedom” supporter have to say there?

If Gadafi was so bad, how come that Libyans had good housing, GDP, sponsored education aboroad if one succeeds to have good marks?
How come they had provided buses to take them to work and back, or company’s cars if they were supervisors.

It is easy to poo-poo the man when he is down. I had a member who worked in Libya and he claims that it was not that bad at all.

I cannot wait to see how “good” it will be in the new demokracy run by clans who hate each other and quite likely will fight amongst.

There would never be an uprise in Libya if West was not interested in their oil fields.

If you do some more research, I think you’ll find that the tribal barriers in Libya have been greatly eroded by 1- migration to the cities 2- a youth culture that is forward thinking and inclusive. The tribal factor is not insignificant, but not as significant as some would have outsiders believe. The tension between the Berbers (Tamazight) and Arabs is of concern and is addressed in the Draft Constitution which guarantees cultural and linguistic freedom in Libya.
Interesting from an historical standpoint is that Libya has been divided between East and West since about 600 bc when the Greeks colonized Cyrene. The east was under Carthage, then Rome, then the Vandals. Even under the Roman empire, Cyrenaica was Greco, speaking Greek and continuing Greek customs, while Leptis, Sabratha etc (Tripolitania) spoke Latin and were definitely Roman.
But that was a long time ago. Gaddafi fueled the differences between Libyans East and West and played the tribes off against each other. A new Libya will work to consolidate the people into one identity. The war has done much to do that among the youth already.
