Interesting duplication of 1977 (?) Star Wars, a game changer, didn't get Best Picture. Annie Hall (small, limited audience) did. Avatar, a game changer, didn't get Best Picture. Hurt Locker (small, limited audience) did. My personal prediction: UP and Up In The Air will be films watched in the future. UP has such heart and is so well done it can be watched again and again. Ditto for Up in the Air, an exquistely balanced, finely put together film -- great cast, great writing, great music, great editing. Really well balanced film, again with great heart.

and I have no idea where to find the various Best Short films. Does Netflix carry them? They should. Stick a few on a DVD or something.

First, I agree with the comments about the Rio. It used to be good, but the last 5 years has gone downhill. That is one of many reasons I wanted to comment on the M Buffet. We were there for Christmas Day when they served a lot of holiday fare in addition to their regular items. I was absolutely impressed with the quality of the food from the freshness to the preparation and the service. There was not a single item I tried that I was not pleased with. It is far above the Stations which have also gone down hill perhaps due to their money problems. I would rank it as a far better value for quality and options than all but perhaps the Bellagio's Friday and Saturday 'Gourmet' Buffet. But you can go to the M nearly three times for the same $. I also disagree with Rex as to the layout. I thought it was far more classy than the Bellagio. I give it an A and will return whenever the Buffet bug hits me.

Patchwork Path Anthology Series

What's Your Favorite Christmas Memory?

Everyone has a favorite Christmas memory or story to share. Choice Publishing Group (CPG) is collecting these stories and memories about weddings for their new book Patchwork Path: Christmas Stocking.

Choice is looking for original stories and essays from 250 to 2000 words about Christmas. Each submission will be reviewed and considered based on creativity, originality, concept, and style. Reading will be continuous and submissions will be considered as they arrive. Not all works will be accepted. There is NO Entry or Reading Fee. The deadline for submissions is December 31, 2009. Choice pays $50.00 per story.

Submissions will be selected for publication in Patchwork Path: Christmas Stocking by Choice Publishing Group president Tena Beth Thompson and bestselling author Gregory A. Kompes.

The Patchwork Path story collection titles are all based on quilt blocks and the book covers have quilt and quilter themes. In addition to Christmas Stocking (to be published in the fall of 2009) other titles include Grandma's Choice (November 2008), Dad's Bowtie (June 2009), Friendship Star (2009), Treasure Box (2010), and Wedding Bouquet (2010). Additional titles are added each year.

Miss Thompson writes about her life experiences with humor. “If I can put a smile on one person's face for a second, easing their pain, I will consider my book a huge success,” she says with conviction. Thompson's book, Separation Survival Guide: When Your Marriage Catapults into Limbo, will be available soon.

Mr. Kompes holds a degree in English literature from Columbia University, New York, and is the author of the bestselling 50 Fabulous Gay-Friendly Places to Live (Career Press). He is editor of The Fabulist Flash, a newsletter for writers; creator of Eighteen Questions, a Writer's Digest "101 Best Website for Writers" 2007 &2008 2009; and, the Patchwork Path Production Director.

Choice Publishing Group (CPG) publishes books that touch people's lives and offer a respite from everyday pressures. CPG books inspire readers to view life with a positive attitude, count their blessing or make them laugh.

When was the last time you ate at the RIO buffet? Years ago it was good, but the lat two times I went there, the food was awful and they were out of many seafood items. The M buffet is way better, it is more like what the Rio buffet used to be.

Good story, Jesper! You captured the essence of the hike. Great pics. BTW, yesterday I did the Rattlesnake Canyon hike which goes a couple miles past the lighthouse into really old and rugged landscapes. You should try it some time.

Is there any PROAmerican group going to this town hall and ask real questions as to why with new technology we cannot use coal?? Also, natural gas. These energy sources are here and now and should be used until the new technogolgies can supply what a major city needs. Contacts??

Hello,

I need a phone number to contact someone in regard to scheduling a free mammogram. The phone number that is listed about is not enough digits. I am unemployed, no health insurance and need a memmagram. It has been two years since I had one, and I am over the age of 50, so it is very important that I find the correct information out. Cancer does run in my family.

Thank you, Leslie Hamm-O'Nwere 702-596-2812

Larry Hart's concert of praise does not mean anything to anyone. He is no super star, he is no Elvis and he is no Michael Jackson. He has no stage presence and is only a legend in his own mind. Please go away.

I saw something like, "Did You Know?" at the Gold Show last November in San Francisco. It gives validity to the idea that we received at the UFO Conference in Laughlin this year that by 2012 so much information will be coming at us that our mind/brain cannot process it in the same way. The result being that humanity shifts to intuition. We will see.

I am learning to grow vegetables. Since I have a small yard, I am growing in containers and using vertical planting. It appears that I will be able to grow most veggies for me and my wife. I am also trading them for fish, pork, eggs and goat milk. Growing, preparing and eating veggies is very satisfying and is a good balance to the exponential growth in technology.

Seems that many have already seen it, but it is still elicits response. Am also asking "What 2008 Rome meeting?"
The point is that the world is speeding at a rate that is outpacing everyone, not just the old and technology-challenged.
Unexpected things indeed - that's why I mentioned Twitter NOT being mentioned even in something generated one year ago. Every new template for wordpress has a tweet function. Anyone under the age of 40 has twitter handle on their business card.

Thanks...someone sent me this UTube when it came out...I watched it. Thought it was interesting. Then asked myself: where/how were those stats developed? And then asked what exactly is the point?

Then I also reminded myself that in my garage--until I sold it at auction-- I had a comprehension series of conference papers written by top engineers in the field about the manned space colony we'd definitely have fully established and operational on Mars by 2008--written in the 1960s.

That is to say, the best laid plans and projections of mice (digital and otherwise) and men don't always proceed as projected....All sorts of unexpected things get in the way. And are, even as we speak.

After my experience with BlueHost, I would say the only "safe" way is to backup all your material yourself.
I would agree with your incompetence theory except you didn't hear the tone of the conversations. There was definitely something dark there - a palpable "dislike" or "distain" that came across the airwaves quite strongly.

I have a blogsite via Yahoo, but am a total Luddite when it comes to things bloggy. But this is totally wierd. If it was a matter of size of blog, then it would be logical to contact you and ask you to go with the bigger size to handle ore visits or more info. Plus, doing that would mean Mo' Money to the company. Hijacking, I don't get. wouldn't that leave footprints indicating it had been hijacked? Deletion is beyond weird.

The site looks the same so who's the host now? Hopefully they're more professional? Competent? Dumping your site might have been for "political" reasons, but if BlueHost was "cheap," they likely are "incompetent" and that's what caused the problem.

Well, wherever/whoever is the host now, I hope all goes well (and is there a way to safely cache copies of everything posted? As I said, I'm a Luddite).

Welcome back!!!

My wife and I went to Tropicana Cinemas a few weeks back to see Shrek the Third, and we were literally the only people in the building other than the employees. It is probably important to note that the picture was poorly lit, the film print was scratched all to hell, and the sound was extremely muffled. We did enjoy the free popcorn and soda though.

It looked like they may have literally opened the doors days before we went, so things were still pretty much in shambles. There were only three screens up and running, it looked like the previous owners did some damage to the interior in their rush to leave.

We will probably check the theatre out again in a week or so. Hopefully things will be in better shape when we return. I am all for supporting an independent theatre, as long as they strive to provide a pleasant experience.

Anybody else been recently? What was your experience like?

Well I was in the area last night to go to a fireworks stand, knowing the event had been canceled. Apparently a lot of people DIDN'T know this, as we saw people lined on the streets with chairs and a somewhat lost look on their face.

Apparently down in the Desert Breeze park where the soccer fields are, it was a little bit chaotic with fireworks being set everywhere.

How can this be "too expensive" yet every year the strip puts on a rather mediocre New Years fireworks show trying to make Vegas look like a big player in the "celebration scene".

If you recall, originally, this show was free, then a few years ago they tossed up gates, some crappy live bands, and started charging to get in. Now, they just abandon it? That's great. Spend lots of money to promote Vegas, but screwem' when they get here.

Yet another reason this will always be a second-rate city.

Hello, I am interested in getting in touch with someone in charge of the event. I am looking for vendor information. I would like the opportunity to present a proposal for portable restrooms & hand washing stations. We also carry waste tanks for grey water which is a must have with some food vendors!
If you would be so kind as to send me some contact information, I will be very grateful.

Sincerely,

The Emerald tablet certainly is enticing. The versus, "that which is above is that which is below" draws the similarity between physical alchemy and spirtual alchemy. In fact, everything conbines into the alchemy laws. The first stage of alchemy is to burn of impurities. In the spiritual world this is the process of decending into hell (fire) which usually takes place at death, but can be performed when alive if you have no fear. This is in order to remove the impurities (the "me" that you think you are"). This process is purification on either level. Hell is only painful while you hold delusion of a "me". Once the "me" is burned up, the pain stops. This is explained in Barry Long's book, "Only Fear Dies" and traces can be found in other book, "Krushnamurti - Think on these things" and "Eckhart Tolle - A New Earth".

If you are serious about discovering who you really are, and ultimately everyone is learning about who they are, we just tend to do it back to front (i.e. we accept what people say we are instead of being still and seeing it for ourselves).

No doubt at the time of creation, the Emerald Tablet was written by a Human that did not have the hardship of an over-powering, thinking mind and therefore with a stiller mind, had greater clarity to see the inevitable outcome of a dominated species losing touch to that which it belongs - the Earth.

Has anyone really thought about the economics of this?

To those of you in the arts, this protest will eventually provide less funding to your programs. Philanthropists, such as oil companies in Las Vegas, provide on occasion, thousands of dollars to organizations. Sometimes, that amount is in the neighborhood of $50,000 - $75,000 to ONE organization. Why? Because they like to give back to the community.

As a staunch supporter of the arts and economic well-being, I cannot control the price of gas. The marketplace determines this based on trading of stocks.

Though it is a good idea to protest prices, our robust marketplace is what has contributed to the upward hike in prices.

Needless to say, that same hike is part of a cyclical pattern in which every peak is followed for a short period by a valley.

The person who originated the circulating letter on not pumping gas on May 15 could be a stock trader, hoping that we will ALL not pump gas, which would lower demand and temporarily drop the price.

At that time, any day trader can buy stock and know that the price will rise again, creating a favorable situation for this person and eventually driving the price higher.

As an educated person with a business background in finance, this creates a winning situation for that stock person. It also contributes to wealth for those people calling options before June, rather than having a put. Yes, these are all technical stock terms, but for those of you savvy in finance, you will understand.

The effect on our volatile marketplace is short-term. Inevitably, the prices will rise.

Many corporate fiscal years end in June. Showing a loss is easy to carry forward to the new year. In addition, knowing that the marketplace is volatile, many companies will incorporate hedge funds to offset the temporary, downward stock movement.

Thus, the option comes into play. Downward movement on a straddled option creates an income for the option if it has a call date near that time. ANY movement on an option that is straddled will override the protest. If a loss is held, then less philanthropy occurs if the company did not hedge the fund.

Feel free to circulate this letter.

Sincerely,

Renato
