Did the Brits, first to offer help to Free Libya, forget to tell Benghazi about the SAS team??
A Point of View, Libya, Military, Politics | Sandra | March 4, 2011 at 12:55According to the Guardian, Richard Norton-Taylor says the British are moving to help Free Libya anti-Gaddafi forces.
The Guardian article stated that the British government was in contact with key Free Libya figures and preparing to send unarmed advisers to help anti-Gaddafi forces in eastern Libya.
That story came out just a couple of days before a team of SAS/MI6 operatives, a translator and a Foreign Office worker were detained in Benghazi. The truth about how they got there and why they were there is yet to come out. As always, the rumors run wild.
One version is that the British special forces SAS team landed by helicopter in the desert at night south of Benghazi. They were armed, dressed in black, and their visit a big surprise. Met by an operative, they then drove off the Benghazi where they were detained and later released to leave Benghazi on the HMS Cumberland.
Another version is that they had set off from Tripoli in 2 4×4 cars and driven to Benghazi, avoiding checkpoints and fighting. They were arrested in Benghazi. All men were dressed in civilian clothing with the 8 SAS men wearing a uniform underneath.

The British government had placed air, sea, and ground forces on alert for quick intervention in the conflict.
Typhoon jets would be deployed to RAF Akrotiri in Cyprus. The 3rd Battalion The Royal Regiment of Scotland – the Black Watch – is on 24 hours’ notice to help in evacuation and humanitarian operations.
An RAF airborne radar and early warning aircraft is based in Malta. The Ministry of Defence has a forward joint task force headquarters on the island.
note: NATO commanders have instructed to draw up plans for a wide range of military options, including a no-fly zone.

It is time for NATO to send representatives to talk to the National Transitional Temporary Council in Benghazi for coordination of humanitarian and military aid.
If NATO cannot agree to act then the willing must form their own international alliance to help the freedom fighters.
Time is of the essence. There may not be anyone to support if we don’t get started NOW. What are we waiting for? Are we afraid of democracy? God forbid that people should decide anything for themselves.
