I would agree with your incompetence theory except you didn't hear the tone of the conversations. There was definitely something dark there - a palpable "dislike" or "distain" that came across the airwaves quite strongly. But this is totally wierd. If it was a matter of size of blog, then it would be logical to contact you and ask you to go with the bigger size to handle ore visits or more info. Plus, doing that would mean Mo' Money to the company. Hijacking, I don't get. wouldn't that leave footprints indicating it had been hijacked? Deletion is beyond weird. The site looks the same so who's the host now? Hopefully they're more professional? Competent? Dumping your site might have been for "political" reasons, but if BlueHost was "cheap," they likely are "incompetent" and that's what caused the problem.
